India captain Shubman Gill created a buzz on social media after making a high-profile appearance at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, where he watched the men’s singles semi-finals from the prestigious Royal Box at Centre Court.
Gill, who is currently in England for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against the hosts beginning on July 14, took a break from his cricketing commitments to enjoy one of the world’s most iconic sporting events. His visit came just days after he attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone as a VIP guest.
One of the biggest highlights of Gill’s Wimbledon outing was his interaction with tennis legend Roger Federer. Pictures of the two sporting icons meeting quickly went viral across social media platforms, drawing widespread appreciation from fans.
Gill was also seen seated in the Royal Box alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, Anjali Tendulkar. The images from Centre Court became one of the most talked-about moments of the day, with cricket and tennis fans celebrating the crossover between two sporting worlds.
The 26-year-old’s invitation to the Royal Box placed him among an exclusive group of Indian cricket captains to receive the honour. Gill became only the fourth Indian captain to be invited, following Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.
His visit also added him to the list of Indian cricketers who have attended Wimbledon this year, alongside Shikhar Dhawan, Deepti Sharma, and Sachin Tendulkar.
Gill later shared a photograph on his official X account featuring himself with Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar inside the Royal Box. The image was widely shared online, with fans praising the gathering of cricketing icons at the All England Club.
The official Wimbledon X account also welcomed Sachin Tendulkar back to Centre Court, posting a photograph of the batting legend in the Royal Box with the caption:
“Cricket royalty returns to the Royal Box. Welcome back to Wimbledon, Sachin Tendulkar.”
Before his Wimbledon visit, Gill experienced another iconic sporting event by attending his first-ever Formula 1 race during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. As a VIP guest, he enjoyed exclusive access to the paddock, interacted with members of the Formula 1 community, and immersed himself in the atmosphere of one of motorsport’s premier events.
Gill will now turn his attention back to cricket as India prepare to begin their ODI series against England on July 14.
