AP & Swatch: In what is already being hailed as the most unexpected and ambitious horological alliance of 2026, high-end Swiss titan Audemars Piguet has teamed up with Swatch to launch the Bioceramic Royal Pop Collection. Officially hitting selected global brick-and-mortar Swatch boutiques on Saturday, May 16, 2026, the collaboration marks a monumental paradigm shift.

For the first time, Audemars Piguet has permitted its sacred, crown-jewel silhouette the Royal Oak to be reinterpreted outside its historic workshops in Le Brassus, blending haute horlogerie prestige with accessible, high-energy pop art culture.
A Radical Reimagining: Gérald Genta’s Blueprint Meets 1980s Pop Art
Moving completely away from traditional wristwear, the Royal Pop presents an eight-piece collection of convertible pocket watches that can be worn around the neck on calfskin lanyards, clipped to bags, or displayed as sleek desk clocks. The 40mm cases are crafted from Swatch’s signature smooth Bioceramic material, meticulously mimicking the iconic octagonal bezel, vertical satin finishes, and exposed hexagonal screws of Gérald Genta’s legendary 1972 Royal Oak design. The face features the traditional geometric “Petite Tapisserie” dial matrix, but douses it in an explosion of vibrant retro colors.
The number eight serves as the mathematical pulse of the collection, mirroring the eight sides of the case. Each variant is distinctively named after the word for “eight” in a different language, split across two classic pocket watch architectures:
The Lépine Style (£335 / $400): Featuring a simplified two-hand (hours and minutes) layout with the winding crown positioned at 12 o’clock. This framework spans six colorways: Huit Blanc (featuring randomly generated, multi-colored bezel screws making each piece a 1-of-1), Blaue Acht, Ocho Negro, Green Eight, Otto Rosso, and Orenji Hachi.
The Savonnette Style (£350 / $420): Shifting the crown to 3 o’clock and integrating a dedicated small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. This is available in two distinct editions, including the marquee pink, yellow, and teal OTG Roz, which draws direct art-historical inspiration from Andy Warhol’s iconic Marilyn Monroe silkscreens.
A Horological Milestone: The First Hand-Wound SISTEM51 Movement
Underneath the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal caseback lies a massive technical first: a brand-new, hand-wound version of Swatch’s automated, 51-component mechanical caliber. Armed with 15 active patents, an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring, and factory laser-regulated precision, the manual-wind SISTEM51 boasts an exceptional 90-hour power reserve.
Adding a brilliant layer of interaction, the internal mainspring barrel drums dynamically shift color as the watch winds down, allowing owners to view their remaining power reserve at a glance through the transparent back.
To further elevate the integrity of the project, Audemars Piguet CEO Ilaria Resta confirmed that 100% of AP’s proceeds from the global sales will be funneled directly into a dedicated non-profit initiative.
The funds are earmarked for preserving and transmitting the rare, dying savoir-faire crafts of traditional Swiss watchmaking to the next generation of young horological talent. Adhering to the legendary MoonSwatch playbook, the Royal Pop is available strictly in-store on a first-come, first-served basis, restricted to one watch per customer, per day.
