The recent appearance of Kingdom Hearts IV during a Nintendo Direct has reignited excitement among fans. However, it is not just the new trailer that has people talking.
Several fans now believe the highly anticipated game could launch in 2027 after two retailer listings briefly appeared online with references to a potential release window.
Although the information was quickly removed, the listings have fueled fresh speculation about when the next chapter of the beloved franchise will finally arrive.
Store Listings Trigger 2027 Release Rumors
According to reports, fans noticed that listings on EB Games and JB Hi-Fi appeared to suggest a 2027 release timeframe.
The listings were later updated and no longer mention a launch window.
Importantly, the pages were reportedly connected to the newly announced Kingdom Hearts Collection (1–3) rather than Kingdom Hearts 4 itself. Therefore, there is currently no official confirmation that the upcoming game will release in 2027.
Even so, many fans believe the timing could be realistic given the game’s development progress.
A Faster Release Would Surprise Long-Time Fans
A 2027 launch would be relatively quick compared to previous entries in the series.
The Kingdom Hearts franchise has developed a reputation for lengthy development cycles and extended gaps between announcement and release.
For example, Kingdom Hearts III experienced a long development process before finally launching in 2019.
Because of that history, some players expected Kingdom Hearts 4 to arrive much later.

The latest trailer provided fans with a glimpse of what they can expect from the next installment.
The footage featured protagonist Sora exploring Quadratum, a mysterious modern-world setting introduced as a major location in the new game.
Players also saw Sora battling enormous enemies using the fast-paced combat system that has become a hallmark of the series.
Additionally, familiar companions Donald Duck and Goofy appeared alongside members of Organization XIII.
These appearances suggest that both new and returning storylines will play important roles in the upcoming adventure.
Classic Combat System Returns
The trailer also highlighted the return of the franchise’s signature action-based gameplay.
Sora appears capable of using a wide range of attacks, abilities and movement options during combat.
Like previous entries, players will be able to equip different Keyblades, each offering unique skills and powers.
This system was a major feature in both Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III, and fans will be pleased to see it returning in the next chapter.
Kingdom Hearts Collections Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Alongside the Kingdom Hearts 4 update, Square Enix announced that several Kingdom Hearts collections are heading to the Nintendo Switch 2.
The releases include:
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind
A complete bundle featuring all three collections will also be available.
As a result, new players will have an easier way to experience the entire storyline before Kingdom Hearts 4 arrives.
Development Appears to Be Progressing Smoothly
Concerns about the game’s development had grown over the past few years because of limited updates from Square Enix.
However, in September 2025, series director Tetsuya Nomura reassured fans by stating that Kingdom Hearts 4 was progressing according to schedule.
The game was originally announced in 2022, making it one of the most anticipated projects currently in development.
Therefore, the recent trailer and release speculation have renewed confidence that fans may not have to wait much longer for the next adventure.

If Kingdom Hearts 4 does launch in 2027, it could join an already impressive lineup of major titles.
