DMK has issued a legal notice to TVK MLA M R Pallavi over alleged defamatory remarks linking party members to power cuts

June 7, 2026: The DMK has served a legal notice to TVK MLA M R Pallavi, who represents the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar constituency, demanding an unconditional apology for allegedly making defamatory statements against members of the party. The notice, issued by advocate and DMK spokesperson Saravanan on June 6, was also sent to YouTube’s Resident Grievance Officer. The dispute stems from an interview given by Pallavi to a local media channel, which was later widely circulated on YouTube and other social media platforms.

According to the notice, Pallavi was questioned during the interview about recurring power cuts in Chennai, including in the Kolathur constituency. In her response, she allegedly claimed that DMK members were behind the disruptions and had bribed officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to damage the image of the TVK-led administration. She also reportedly alleged that TVK workers in Royapuram had uncovered efforts by DMK members to deliberately engineer power outages through political influence and money.

DMK has strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless, irresponsible, and unsupported by any evidence. The party argues that the statements have harmed the reputation of its cadres and fueled political hostility. The notice demands that Pallavi and the media outlet issue a public apology across all social media platforms within 24 hours and remove the interview and related clips. DMK has warned that failure to comply could result in both civil and criminal legal action.
