Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has stated he would be “honoured” to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit to Australia from July 8 to 10, 2026. The visit will mark the Annual Leaders’ Summit between the two nations under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In an official statement, Albanese emphasized the shifting geopolitical and economic weight of the relationship:

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that PM Modi is embarking on a broader six-day diplomatic tour from July 6 to 11, covering Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand to entrench India’s strategic and economic footprint across the region.
- Bilateral Agenda: Scheduled to arrive in Australia on July 8, PM Modi will hold high-level bilateral talks with Albanese. The discussions will target expanded cooperation in defense, clean energy transitions, securing critical mineral supply chains, direct investments, and emerging technologies.
- Diaspora Address: On July 9, PM Modi is scheduled to address the Indian diaspora at a massive community event titled “Melbourne Meets Modi”, hosted at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
