A boat carrying Indian tourists capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island on Saturday, prompting local authorities to launch search and rescue operations. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam confirmed the incident and said details were still being verified.
According to reports, around 32 Indian tourists were on board the vessel when it overturned. The embassy said it was coordinating with Vietnamese authorities to assist those affected and provide updates to families.
In a statement shared on social media, the Indian Embassy said, “In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island. Exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing.”
A dedicated help desk has been set up at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to assist affected families and provide information. The embassy has also established a control room in Hanoi for emergency assistance.
Officials said rescue efforts were continuing, and further details about casualties, survivors and the condition of passengers are awaited.
Phu Quoc Island, located in southern Vietnam, is a popular tourist destination known for its beaches and attracts visitors from across the world, including India.
