Bushra Bibi undergoes surgery in Rawalpindi, health concerns flagged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
April 17, 2026: Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has undergone surgery on her right eye at a private hospital in Rawalpindi. Currently serving a seven-year sentence in the Al-Qadir Trust case, she had complained of vision loss, following which doctors diagnosed retinal detachment and recommended immediate surgery.
According to jail authorities, Bushra Bibi was taken to a private facility where the procedure was carried out by retina specialist Dr Nadeem Qureshi at Al Shifa Eye Hospital. She was discharged after a night’s stay and returned to Adiala Jail, with officials stating that follow-up examinations will be conducted as per medical advice.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf termed her condition concerning, citing additional diagnoses such as posterior vitreous detachment, myopia, and astigmatism. Party leaders, including Gohar Ali Khan, called for better medical access and family visits, also urging similar care for Imran Khan, who has been in custody since 2023.
