US President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled the design of a new limited-edition commemorative American passport to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, featuring his own portrait prominently on the document.

Sharing a mock-up of the passport on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!'”

The design released by Trump shows a stern-faced portrait of the president leaning on his desk, accompanied by his signature. The background features the text of the Declaration of Independence, while the opposite page displays a painting depicting the signing of the historic document in 1776, along with the inscription “United States of America 250.”

The portrait appears to be based on an official image captured by White House photographer Daniel Torok.

White House Calls It The ‘Patriot Passport’

The White House also shared the rendering on its official social media channels, describing the commemorative document as the “Patriot Passport.”

The release forms part of nationwide celebrations marking 250 years since the United States declared independence in 1776.

Earlier, the US State Department had announced plans to issue a special commemorative passport featuring “custom artwork” beginning July 6. However, following Trump’s social media post, the department did not immediately respond to requests for additional details about the newly unveiled design.

Limited Availability

According to a State Department official quoted in April, the Trump-themed commemorative passports will only be available through in-person appointments in Washington, DC, and only while supplies last.

The commemorative edition is expected to be issued in limited numbers as part of the country’s semiquincentennial celebrations.

Trump Continues To Leave His Mark On Federal Institutions

The commemorative passport is the latest example of Trump’s efforts to place his personal imprint on US government institutions during his presidency.

In recent months, banners featuring the president have appeared outside several federal buildings. The US Treasury Department has also announced that Trump’s signature will soon appear on the one-dollar bill.

Trump also briefly added his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts before a court ruled that the addition should be removed.

First Sitting US President Featured On A Passport

If issued as unveiled, Trump will become the first sitting President of the United States to have his likeness featured inside an American passport.

The commemorative passport comes as the US prepares for year-long events celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary, one of the country’s most significant historical milestones.
