India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after Islamabad once again raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during discussions on the UN Security Council’s annual report. New Delhi accused Pakistan of repeatedly misusing international forums to advance its political agenda and spreading misleading narratives on matters that India considers strictly internal.
The remarks came during a plenary session of the UN General Assembly, where representatives of both countries exchanged views on regional issues.
India Objects to Pakistan’s Kashmir References
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, firmly rejected Pakistan’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir and stated that the Union Territory remains an internal matter of India.
Responding to Pakistan’s intervention, Harish said India was compelled to reply due to what he described as unwarranted references to a matter that falls entirely within India’s sovereign domain.
Accusation of Misusing UN Platforms
India accused Pakistan of repeatedly using international platforms to pursue political objectives unrelated to the agenda under discussion.
According to the Indian envoy, membership in the United Nations Security Council carries significant responsibilities and should not be used to promote what India described as biased or misleading narratives. He further alleged that Pakistan has consistently attempted to divert attention by raising issues unrelated to the subject matter of various UN forums.
India’s Stand on Jammu and Kashmir
Reiterating New Delhi’s long-standing position, Harish stated that there is no ambiguity regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
He asserted that Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will continue to remain an integral and inalienable part of India. He also maintained that any claims challenging this position are inconsistent with historical facts and do not alter realities on the ground.
India has consistently maintained that all issues related to Jammu and Kashmir are internal matters and that any outstanding bilateral concerns with Pakistan should be addressed directly between the two countries.
Pakistan Reiterates Its Position
The exchange followed remarks by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who reiterated Islamabad’s position on Kashmir and referred to past UN Security Council resolutions concerning the region.
Pakistan has continued to raise the issue at various international forums, while India maintains that the matter is not open for external mediation.
Diplomatic Tensions Continue
The latest exchange highlights the continuing diplomatic differences between India and Pakistan over Jammu and Kashmir. Despite periodic engagement on regional and global issues, the subject remains one of the most sensitive points in relations between the two neighbours.
At international forums, India has increasingly pushed back against references to Kashmir by Pakistan, arguing that such remarks are inappropriate and unrelated to the discussions taking place.
A Familiar Debate at Global Platforms
The latest UN exchange reflects a pattern seen in several international gatherings, where both countries use diplomatic platforms to present their respective positions. While Pakistan continues to seek international attention on the issue, India remains firm that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and rejects third-party involvement.
The discussion once again underscored the deep differences that continue to shape relations between the two countries, even as global forums focus on broader international challenges.
