Iran has reportedly submitted its response to a United States-backed peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia, with Pakistan acting as a mediator in the negotiations.

According to Iranian state media and sources within Pakistan’s foreign office, Tehran delivered its reply to Pakistani intermediaries on Sunday. While officials did not disclose the exact contents of the response, the development is being viewed as a potentially important step toward reducing tensions in the region.

Pakistan Mediating Between US And Iran

Sources familiar with the negotiations said Pakistani mediators described the exchange as a “positive step toward de-escalation” as diplomatic efforts intensify to end months of military confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The current round of discussions is primarily focused on achieving a ceasefire and preventing further escalation across the Gulf region.

Iranian officials are believed to have included revised conditions in their response, including:

  • Security guarantees
  • Easing of sanctions
  • A permanent halt to hostilities involving Israel
  • Protection of Iranian commercial interests

Gulf Region Continues To Witness Attacks

The diplomatic development comes even as tensions remain high across the Gulf waters. Reports of multiple drone attacks emerged on Sunday near Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, raising concerns about maritime security in the region.

According to regional defence reports, one drone struck a commercial vessel travelling toward Qatar from Abu Dhabi, causing a minor fire onboard. No casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, UAE authorities claimed that air defence systems intercepted two drones allegedly launched from Iran, calling it a direct threat to national security.

Strait Of Hormuz Remains Under Pressure

The Strait of Hormuz continues to remain at the centre of the conflict. Iran has tightened control over the strategic shipping route since the outbreak of the war earlier this year, while the US Navy has reportedly intensified operations aimed at restricting Iranian-linked maritime movement.

The latest escalation follows reports that a US fighter aircraft disabled two Iranian-linked tankers in the Gulf of Oman in an attempt to prevent them from reaching Iranian territory.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had earlier warned that attacks on Iranian commercial vessels or tankers would trigger retaliation against “enemy ships and American centres” in the Middle East.

Hopes For De-Escalation Remain

Despite continued military activity, the latest diplomatic exchange has raised cautious optimism among observers who believe backchannel negotiations may help prevent a broader regional war.

However, analysts warn that any breakthrough will likely depend on both sides agreeing to long-term security guarantees and reducing military operations around key shipping corridors.
