WASHINGTON, D.C. — More details have emerged regarding the individual taken into custody following the shooting at the Washington Hilton on April 25, 2026. Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California.
The incident, which occurred near the main security screening area, forced the immediate evacuation of President Donald Trump, the First Lady, and other high-ranking officials.
Who is Cole Tomas Allen?
According to multiple law enforcement sources and preliminary reports:
- Background: Allen is a resident of Torrance, CA, and a 2017 graduate of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
- Employment: He reportedly worked as a tutor for C2 Education in Torrance and was even named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024.
- Armed & Dangerous: At the time of his arrest, Allen was found carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.
- Current Status: The suspect was not hit by gunfire during the apprehension but is currently hospitalized for medical and psychiatric evaluation.
The “Lone Wolf” Theory
President Trump, speaking from the White House briefing room shortly after the incident, described Allen as a “lone wolf” and a “whack job.” Despite the high regional tensions involving Iran and Israel, the President stated he does not believe the attack was connected to any foreign conflict or the ongoing war in West Asia.
“In my opinion, he was a lone wolf… a guy who looked pretty evil when he was down.” — President Donald Trump
Security Failure at the Hilton?
The President also took aim at the venue itself, describing the Washington Hilton—a site that has hosted presidential events for over 60 years—as “not a particularly secure” building.
The suspect was reportedly a registered guest at the hotel, which may explain how he was able to move through certain areas of the complex before charging the final Secret Service magnetometer checkpoint. Federal agents are currently searching Allen’s home in California for further evidence of a motive.
Legal Consequences
U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro announced that Allen will face preliminary charges, including:
- Assault on a Federal Officer using a dangerous weapon.
- Using a Firearm during a crime of violence.
One Secret Service officer was struck by a round during the struggle but was saved by his bulletproof vest and is expected to make a full recovery.
