The Indian Embassy in Bangkok has issued a comprehensive travel advisory for Indian nationals visiting Thailand, following the end of the country’s visa-free entry scheme for Indian passport holders.
With visa-free travel discontinued, Indian tourists must now comply with stricter immigration requirements, including obtaining a Visa on Arrival (VoA) where applicable and fulfilling additional documentation requirements before boarding their flight and upon arrival in Thailand.

Thailand Restores Visa on Arrival For Indians
Thailand has officially ended the visa-free entry programme for Indian citizens, which had been in effect since 2024.
Indian travellers will now have to follow the Visa on Arrival (VoA) framework and ensure they meet all immigration conditions before travelling.
Mandatory Documents For Entry
The Embassy has advised travellers to ensure they carry all required documents to avoid delays or denial of entry.
Visitors must have:
- A passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
- A completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) submitted online before departure.
- The QR code generated after completing the TDAC, which is mandatory at immigration.
- Confirmed return or onward flight tickets.
- Hotel booking confirmations.
- Proof of sufficient financial resources.
Immigration authorities may ask to verify any of these documents during arrival.
Minimum Cash Requirement
Indian travellers entering Thailand under the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme are advised to carry a minimum of:
- 20,000 Thai Baht (THB) per person
This is approximately ₹57,300, based on current exchange rates.
Officials may request proof of funds during immigration checks.
Employment Visa Mandatory For Job Seekers
The Embassy also warned Indians travelling to Thailand for employment not to enter the country on a tourist visa or under the Visa on Arrival scheme.
Travellers with confirmed job offers must obtain the appropriate employment visa before leaving India.
Entering Thailand as a tourist for work purposes violates local immigration laws and could lead to legal action.
Guidelines For Transit Passengers
Passengers transiting through Thai airports have also been advised to carry:
- Confirmed onward flight tickets.
- Valid visas required for their final destination, wherever applicable.
Having these documents readily available will help ensure a smooth transit process.
Embassy Urges Compliance
The Indian Embassy has urged all travellers to carefully follow Thailand’s revised immigration rules to avoid inconvenience during travel.
The advisory comes after Thailand formally discontinued visa-free entry for Indian nationals, marking a significant change in travel requirements for one of the most popular overseas destinations among Indian tourists.
