US President Donald Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping strongly opposed Iran acquiring nuclear weapons

May 15, 2026: Donald Trump said he held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Iran and regional security issues, claiming there was strong agreement between the two sides that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons.

Speaking about the conversation, Trump said Xi “feels strongly” that Iran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. The US President also referred to the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the importance of keeping the strategic waterway open amid rising tensions in West Asia and concerns over maritime security and global oil supplies.

Trump further claimed that the United States currently had effective control over the strait and alleged that Iran’s business activities had been severely disrupted in recent weeks. The remarks come at a time of heightened international concern over Iran’s nuclear programme and instability in the Gulf region.

According to Trump, China agreed to purchase more than 200 Boeing aircraft along with hundreds of aircraft engines manufactured by General Electric.
