Delcy Rodriguez will visit India from June 3 to 7 and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as both countries seek to expand cooperation
June 2, 2026: Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez will undertake an official visit to India from June 3 to June 7, with high-level discussions scheduled with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Indian officials. The visit comes at a time when India has significantly increased crude oil imports from Venezuela, making it the second-largest buyer of Venezuelan oil after the United States.
India imported around 427,000 barrels per day of Venezuelan crude in May, while Reliance Industries has emerged as one of the largest purchasers of the South American nation’s oil.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the talks will cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations, including cooperation in energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy. Rodriguez is also expected to meet leading figures from India’s energy sector during her visit. She previously visited India in February 2025 as Venezuela’s oil minister and participated in India Energy Week.
The visit assumes added significance as India looks to diversify its energy sources amid disruptions in West Asian supply routes and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. India had halted Venezuelan oil imports after U.S. tariffs and sanctions but resumed purchases following the easing of restrictions earlier this year. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and deepen cooperation between New Delhi and Caracas, particularly in the energy sector.
