A social media influencer has sparked massive online debate after posting a video in which he allegedly pretended to be injured to secure a business class upgrade on an Air India flight. The stunt, described as a “social experiment,” quickly went viral and divided internet users over ethics, empathy, and influencer culture.
Influencer Uses Fake Neck Brace At Airport
Instagram creator Sarthak Sachdeva shared a video showing himself arriving at an airport wearing a neck brace and arm sling. In the clip, he approached the Air India counter and requested a first-class seat upgrade.
While first-class seats were reportedly unavailable, airline staff upgraded him to business class after noticing his apparent injury. The influencer later revealed the injury was fake and said the idea was inspired by international YouTuber Airrack.
‘Just A Fun Social Experiment,’ Says Creator
Defending the video, Sachdeva stated that the prank was meant purely for entertainment and not intended to insult or harm anyone.
He also praised Air India staff for their kindness and hospitality, calling them among the “kindest staff” he had experienced during travel.
Internet Divided Over The Viral Prank
The video triggered strong reactions online, with many users criticising the stunt for exploiting human empathy and potentially harming genuinely injured passengers in the future.
Several users argued that such behaviour could make airline staff more suspicious of passengers needing real medical assistance. Others demanded stricter action against influencers promoting unethical content for views.
At the same time, some viewers appreciated the compassion shown by airline employees, saying the incident reflected positively on Air India’s customer service.
Questions Raised About Authenticity Of Video
Some social media users questioned whether the entire prank was staged. Observers claimed the influencer may have already possessed a business class ticket before filming the video, pointing to airport entry gate details as possible evidence.
Despite the controversy, the clip continued gaining traction across Instagram and X, with users debating whether it exposed a loophole in airline systems or simply crossed ethical boundaries.
Debate Around Influencer Culture Continues
The incident has reignited conversations around viral “social experiments” and the lengths content creators go for engagement online. Critics say such stunts blur the line between entertainment and manipulation, especially when public trust and empathy are involved.
Meanwhile, supporters argue that the video unintentionally highlighted the helpful attitude of airline staff toward passengers needing assistance.
