Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described India as one of Israel’s strongest supporters
July 6, 2026: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday highlighted India as one of Israel’s strongest supporters while rejecting US Vice President JD Vance’s assertion that Israel should avoid criticising its “only powerful ally”, the United States. Speaking to Fox News, Netanyahu said he respected Vance but did not agree with all of his views. He reaffirmed that US President Donald Trump remains Israel’s closest friend in the White House while pointing to India’s strong public support for Israel, saying he receives overwhelming backing from Indians on social media.
Netanyahu said Israel continues to enjoy support from several countries despite criticism in parts of the international media. He claimed many world leaders privately express respect for Israel and seek cooperation in areas such as defence, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Describing Israel as a global technology leader, he said the country ranks among the world’s top nations in cyber capabilities and continues to strengthen partnerships with friendly countries.
The remarks came after JD Vance last month advised Israel not to publicly criticise Washington during ongoing US-Iran peace talks. Responding to reports that Israeli leaders were unhappy with the US-Iran agreement, Vance had urged Israel to avoid attacking its most powerful ally. Meanwhile, reports suggest Netanyahu has requested a meeting with President Trump at the White House following the NATO summit, where the two leaders are expected to discuss Iran, Lebanon and regional security.
