Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a brand-new terminal building at the Jodhpur Airport, marking a significant milestone in upgrading Rajasthan’s aviation infrastructure. Built at an estimated cost of ₹480 crore, the state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance the overall travel experience while significantly boosting tourism and regional connectivity for the historic “Blue City.”

Spanning an impressive area of over 23,000 square meters, the new terminal has been engineered to seamlessly handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually. The infrastructure is specifically designed to manage high-volume passenger traffic, offering spacious waiting lounges, streamlined baggage handling systems, modernized check-in desks, and high-efficiency security screening stations.

Architecturally, the terminal beautifully blends Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage with contemporary infrastructure. The building showcases traditional design motifs, including localized arches, jharokhas (ornate windows), and sandstone-inspired façades that reflect the region’s royal heritage. This infrastructure boost will provide a smoother entry point for domestic and international travelers visiting popular heritage landmarks like the Mehrangarh Fort and Umaid Bhawan Palace.

The launch of the terminal also coincided with the introduction of the Modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme. By combining this expanded terminal with the revamped regional aviation scheme, the government expects to significantly improve affordable air connectivity between smaller Tier-2 or Tier-3 cities and India’s major metro hubs.
