A new satirical political group calling itself the Cockroach Janta Party has quickly sprung up online. The group formed after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant reportedly compared unemployed youth to “cockroaches” during a court hearing. Remarkably, the digital outfit managed to draw more than 40,000 members within just two days of launching.

The party was founded by former Aam Aadmi Party social media worker Abhijeet Dipke. Through quick social media exchanges, the group has already jokingly admitted Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad as formal members.

High-Profile Politicians Join the Online Banter

The satirical movement quickly caught the attention of prominent political figures on social media platform X. For example, Kirti Azad posted an inquiry asking about the qualifications required to join the Cockroach Janta Party. The party quickly responded that winning the 1983 World Cup served as a perfectly good qualification.

Similarly, Mahua Moitra reposted a message from the group expressing her own desire to join the ranks. She joked about her membership besides being a card-carrying member of the Anti-National Party. The digital group warmly welcomed her, calling the MP the fighter that democracy needs.

Chief Justice Surya Kant Clarifies Courtroom Remarks

The controversy initially began during a tense court hearing on May 15. At the time, the Chief Justice reportedly noted that some unemployed youngsters become journalists, RTI activists, or social media users to start attacking everyone.

However, he later clarified that the media had heavily misquoted his remarks. He stressed that his words were never meant as a broad criticism of unemployed youth in general.

Instead, the Chief Justice explained that he was referring specifically to individuals entering these fields with fake or bogus degrees. He firmly added that any news reports suggesting he demeaned the nation’s youth were totally baseless.

A Satirical Manifesto With Serious Demands

Despite its humorous tone, the Cockroach Janta Party released a detailed manifesto that it describes as “secular, socialist, democratic, and lazy.” The platform includes several highly specific political demands targeting systemic issues in Indian governance.

  • Judicial Reform: A complete ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for former chief justices.
  • Gender Representation: Implementing a 50 percent reservation for women in parliament without increasing the house’s total strength.
  • Defection Penalties: A strict 20-year election ban for any MLAs and MPs who switch political parties mid-term.

Championing Student Rights and Gen-Z Issues

Beyond major government reforms, the group has taken a strong stance on recent educational controversies. For instance, the party demanded that the Central Board of Secondary Education completely scrap its current rechecking fees. The manifesto boldly labeled these financial charges as a form of blatant corruption.

Furthermore, the group has voiced vocal support for the millions of students affected by the ongoing NEET exam controversy. To channel this growing engagement, the party announced plans to host a massive virtual Gen-Z convention. They are actively inviting young people from across the country to help organize the digital event.

Currently, the eligibility criteria to gain membership remain intentionally humorous. To join, an applicant must be unemployed, lazy, and chronically online. Additionally, the party requires members to possess the distinct ability to rant professionally.

Whether the Cockroach Janta Party will ever formally register as a real political entity or simply remain a digital rebellion is still unclear. However, the satirical outfit has successfully tapped into a very real sentiment of frustration among young Indian citizens.
