A heated exchange broke out between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Heinrich Klaasen. This intense incident happened right after the batter’s crucial dismissal during their IPL 2026 clash in Chennai on Monday. Despite the on-field drama, SRH eventually won the match by five wickets. Because of this major victory, they qualified for the upcoming playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans (GT).

The Brilliant Stumping That Sparked The Fight

The dramatic incident took place on the third ball of the 15th over during SRH’s run chase. Spinner Noor Ahmad delivered a sharp googly outside the off stump from over the wicket. Klaasen attempted to create room to play an inside-out shot, but the ball spun away and beat the outside edge.

Samson showed incredible reflexes and quickly removed the bails before Klaasen could drag his back foot inside the crease. This lightning-fast glove work instantly drew comparison with legendary former CSK captain MS Dhoni.

• Runs Scored: 47 • Wickets Left: 5

Klaasen had to walk back to the dugout after scoring a dangerous 47 off 26 balls. As he turned to leave, he exchanged some angry words with Samson near the pitch. The SRH batter even stopped and turned around while heading away to continue the verbal fight, making it clear that the talk was not friendly.

Pat Cummins Restricts Chennai Super Kings

Earlier in the evening, the hosts elected to bat first after winning the coin toss. However, SRH captain Pat Cummins produced a brilliant three-wicket spell to help restrict Chennai Super Kings to 180 for seven.

Initially, Samson gave CSK a incredibly fast start by hitting Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six and two boundaries in the opening over to collect 17 runs. He then struck Praful Hinge for three consecutive boundaries in the very next over.

• Sanju Samson: Fast start • Pat Cummins: 3 critical wickets
• Kartik Sharma: 32 runs • Noor Ahmad: Clutched Klaasen wicket
• Dewald Brevis: 44 runs • Sakib Hussain: Broke partnerships
• Final Score: 180/7 • Eshan Malinga: Clean bowled Brevis

Cummins wisely brought himself into the attack for the third over to stop the damage. He dismissed Samson immediately after keeper Ishan Kishan completed a clean catch behind the stumps. Following that, Urvil Patel struck two huge sixes off Cummins before bowler Sakib Hussain removed him with a clever slower delivery.

Middle Order Recovery And The Final Push

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kartik Sharma then came together to add 42 runs for the third wicket. Kartik scored a quick 32 off 19 balls, hitting an inside-out boundary off Hinge and a pulled six against Shivang Kumar.

However, Cummins returned to the attack and dismissed Kartik with a well-disguised slower ball outside off stump. Soon after, he removed Gaikwad with a sharp short ball. The captain managed only 15 runs off 21 balls before finding Eshan Malinga in the deep.

Fortunately for the home crowd, Dewald Brevis scored a fighting 44 off 27 balls. He anchored a 59-run partnership with Shivam Dube to help CSK recover from the quick wickets. Brevis smashed both Cummins and Nitish for big sixes during his brief innings before Malinga clean-bowled him with a fast 141 kmph delivery. Dube and the remaining lower-order batters tried their best to push CSK beyond the 200-run mark, but the team ultimately finished their 20 overs on 180 for seven.
