Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran has passed away at the age of 38 following a prolonged illness, leaving the cricketing world in mourning. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Afghanistan cricket, the left-arm pacer played a significant role in the nation’s remarkable journey from Associate status to becoming a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Announcing his passing, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) paid tribute to Zadran, describing him as one of the “foundation-laying figures” of Afghan cricket. The board praised his dedication, passion, and invaluable contribution to the growth of the sport in Afghanistan, stating that his efforts helped lay the foundation for the country’s rise on the international stage.

Tributes poured in from across the cricket fraternity, with former India head coach Ravi Shastri remembering Zadran as one of the architects of Afghanistan’s cricketing success. Shastri expressed his condolences to Zadran’s family, friends, and the Afghanistan cricket community, saying his contribution to the game would always be remembered.

Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle also expressed his grief, recalling Zadran’s energetic run-up and fearless approach on the field. Bhogle noted that Zadran, alongside fellow pacer Hamid Hassan, played a vital role in Afghanistan’s early years in international cricket and described his death as a tragic loss.

Several Indian Premier League franchises also paid tribute to the former pacer. Sunrisers Hyderabad offered prayers for his family, while Gujarat Titans extended heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. Kolkata Knight Riders also expressed sympathy, standing with Zadran’s family and the entire Afghanistan cricket fraternity during this difficult time.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) remembered Zadran as a Cricket World Cup hero and acknowledged his lasting impact on Afghanistan’s cricketing journey.
