The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has become the most-watched season in the tournament’s history, according to broadcaster JioStar. The company announced that the recently concluded edition recorded unprecedented growth across television and digital platforms, further strengthening the IPL’s position as India’s biggest sporting and entertainment property.

The tournament’s cumulative reach crossed 1.2 billion viewers, marking a 7 per cent year-on-year increase. Total watch-time surged to an impressive 870 billion minutes as fans remained engaged throughout a season packed with dramatic matches, emerging stars and memorable storylines.

The season culminated with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) successfully defending their title, and the final emerged as the most-watched IPL match ever. The championship clash attracted more than 400 million viewers across television and digital screens, setting a new benchmark for sports broadcasting in India.

Digital Growth Powers IPL’s Historic Success

JioStar highlighted significant growth in digital consumption during IPL 2026, with Connected TV (CTV) continuing its rapid rise. Viewership on connected televisions increased by 22 per cent compared to the previous season, reflecting the growing preference among audiences for large-screen digital viewing experiences.

Digital video views touched 25 billion, registering an 8 per cent increase year-on-year. According to the broadcaster, affluent consumers and younger audiences played a key role in driving this growth, reinforcing IPL’s appeal among premium and future-focused audience segments.

Regional language content also witnessed remarkable traction, with regional language watch-time on digital platforms increasing by 33 per cent. The trend underscores the growing demand for localized sports content across India.

JioStar CEO Highlights Integrated Viewing Experience

Commenting on the season’s record-breaking performance, JioStar Sports CEO Ishan Chatterjee said IPL 2026 represented a significant step forward in creating a fully integrated sports-viewing ecosystem.

He noted that the broadcaster focused on making every interaction meaningful by combining television-scale reach with personalized digital experiences. According to Chatterjee, the strong growth in Connected TV viewership and regional-language consumption reflects changing audience preferences and demonstrates the success of the platform’s innovation-driven strategy.

He also credited the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), distribution partners, advertisers and fans for contributing to another landmark season.

New Features Enhanced Fan Engagement

IPL 2026 featured several innovations designed to improve the viewing experience. Fans were offered coverage in 12 languages, access to 30 separate feeds, multi-camera viewing options and the newly introduced “Champions Wali Commentary” feature.

The commentary format brought together former champions, cricket legends and leading experts, allowing viewers to enjoy deeper insights and diverse perspectives during matches.

The broadcaster also integrated artificial intelligence-driven experiences through OpenAI and Swiggy partnerships, enabling more personalised and interactive engagement for fans while creating contextual opportunities for brands to connect with audiences.

Advertiser Interest Hits New High

The tournament attracted significant commercial interest, with JioStar reporting the addition of 125 new advertisers compared to the previous season.

On the sponsorship front, 22 brands partnered with JioHotstar, while 16 sponsors associated with the Star Sports Network, highlighting the IPL’s continued dominance as India’s premier advertising platform.

Focus Shifts To Women’s T20 World Cup And India Tour Of England

With IPL 2026 now concluded, JioStar has shifted its focus to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, currently underway from June 12 to July 5.

The broadcaster will also cover India’s upcoming white-ball tour of England, featuring five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals beginning July 1.
