Large-scale protests have continued across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with demonstrators demanding greater political rights

July 3, 2026: Large-scale protests have continued across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), with demonstrations entering their fourth consecutive week. The movement, centred in Rawalakot and several other parts of the region, has become one of the longest sustained protest campaigns in recent years. Videos shared on social media show thousands of people gathering at public venues, raising slogans and expressing dissatisfaction with Pakistan’s administration while demanding greater political rights and self-determination.

Protest leaders have alleged that authorities responded with arrests, movement restrictions and crackdowns on activists associated with the Awami Action Committee. They also claimed that several protesters had been detained and that access to essential supplies had been disrupted in some areas. These allegations have not been independently verified. Demonstrators further accused Pakistan of suppressing dissent and failing to address long-standing political and economic concerns in the region.

The protests have largely remained centred around Rawalakot’s Eidgah Ground, where rallies and public meetings continue despite reported security measures. Protest leaders warned that demonstrations could expand towards Muzaffarabad if their demands remain unmet. The prolonged unrest has drawn significant attention due to its scale and duration, while the situation remains fluid with several claims by both protesters and authorities yet to be independently verified.
