Lucknow Super Giants produced a commanding batting performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in their IPL 2026 clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The star of the night was Mitchell Marsh, who hammered a sensational 90 off just 38 balls, guiding LSG to a comfortable chase of 188 with plenty of firepower to spare. Marsh’s explosive innings included nine boundaries and seven towering sixes as the hosts chased down the target without much pressure.

Earlier, young pacer Akash Singh delivered an impressive spell of 3 for 26 to put CSK under pressure early in the innings before Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis helped the visitors recover with a crucial partnership.
Akash Singh Rocks CSK Top Order Early
After winning the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant opted to bowl first, and the decision paid immediate dividends.
Akash Singh struck early to dent CSK’s top order, dismissing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel to leave Chennai struggling in the powerplay.
With wickets falling at regular intervals, CSK needed stability in the middle overs, and Kartik Sharma stepped up under pressure.
Kartik Sharma, Brevis Rescue Chennai
Kartik Sharma played a brilliant counter-attacking knock, scoring 71 runs off 42 deliveries with six fours and five sixes. He stitched together a vital 70-run partnership with Dewald Brevis, helping Chennai recover from a difficult position.
Brevis provided valuable support during the stand as the duo shifted momentum back towards CSK with aggressive strokeplay against both pace and spin.
In the death overs, Shivam Dube added the finishing touches with a quick unbeaten 32 off just 16 balls, ensuring CSK finished on a competitive 187 for 5 in 20 overs.
Mitchell Marsh’s Blitz Crushes CSK Hopes
Any hopes CSK had of defending the target were quickly dismantled by Mitchell Marsh’s brutal assault at the top of the order.
The Australian all-rounder attacked from the outset, taking apart the CSK bowling attack with clean hitting all around the ground. His aggressive approach allowed LSG to dominate the powerplay and maintain a high scoring rate throughout the chase.
Marsh looked in complete control as he raced towards his fifty before accelerating even further during the middle overs. By the time he departed for 90, the match was virtually sealed in LSG’s favour.
The remaining batters completed the chase comfortably as Lucknow reached the target with one-sided ease and strengthened their position in the IPL 2026 points table.
