Fifteen-year-old national-level shooter Damayanti Sen, who went missing from her Howrah home on Thursday, has returned safely after a two-day search operation. Her return brought relief to her family, friends and members of the shooting community, though questions remain over where she was during the period she was missing.
Found Near Ramkrishnapur Ferry Jetty
Damayanti was found on Saturday morning near Ramkrishnapur Ferry Jetty in Howrah. According to reports, a few morning walkers recognised the young shooter and immediately informed her family.
Her father, Dhrubajyoti Sen, reached the location and brought her back home.
Mystery Over Missing Period Remains
Despite her safe return, details about Damayanti’s whereabouts during the two days remain unclear. Her family has not shared any information about the incident, and the Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed to trace her has also not released an official statement.
Damayanti, who was recently selected for national team trials, had left her home on Thursday afternoon to buy household items and did not return. Her parents said she was carrying her mobile phone when she left.
CCTV Footage Tracked Her Movements
During the search, investigators found that Damayanti had been spotted at multiple locations.
On Thursday, CCTV footage showed her at Howrah Station, where she was seen moving between platforms four and five. On Friday, she was reportedly spotted at the Mahesh Rath Yatra in Serampore, located in the neighbouring Hooghly district.
Following these sightings, police deployed four teams to trace the missing teenager.
Relief Among Shooting Community
While the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are still being investigated, neighbours and Damayanti’s shooting teammates have expressed relief over her safe return.
The incident drew attention from the sports community as Damayanti had recently emerged as a promising young talent and was preparing for higher-level competitions.
