Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals in their crucial IPL 2026 clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The skipper also confirmed the IPL debut of promising young spinner Tripurana Vijay.

Born on September 5, 2001, in Tekkali, Andhra Pradesh, Vijay is a right-arm off-break bowler who has steadily built his reputation through impressive domestic performances. The 24-year-old gained widespread attention during the Ranji Trophy after claiming 10 wickets in a match against Rajasthan, a performance that quickly put him on the radar of IPL franchises.
Vijay has also impressed in white-ball cricket with his disciplined bowling in the middle overs. His strong domestic record convinced Delhi Capitals to sign him during the IPL 2026 mega auction as part of their long-term spin-bowling plans.

In T20 cricket so far, Vijay has featured in 10 matches and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 18.92, while maintaining an economy rate of 6.8. Delhi Capitals will now hope the young spinner can successfully translate his domestic form onto the IPL stage during a critical phase of the tournament.
With the playoff race becoming increasingly competitive, DC management has handed Vijay an opportunity in a high-pressure encounter against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise has struggled with consistency in certain bowling phases this season, and Vijay’s inclusion provides Axar Patel with another spin option capable of controlling the middle overs.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals also remain in a must-win situation as they push for a playoff spot. Speaking ahead of the contest, Jofra Archer said the tournament remains unpredictable and any team is capable of making the top four.
Archer said, “Anybody can beat anybody. You can’t take anyone for granted in this tournament,” highlighting the intense competition as the IPL league stage nears its conclusion.
