In a significant gesture aimed at supporting one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to allow 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to travel with his parents during India’s upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
The move comes shortly after Sooryavanshi earned his maiden national call-up following a remarkable IPL 2026 season, where he emerged as the tournament’s highest run-scorer and one of the biggest talking points in Indian cricket.
According to a report by Sportstar, the BCCI believes the presence of family members will help the teenager adapt to the pressures of international cricket and life on the road at a very young age.
Confirming the decision, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board has taken special measures considering Sooryavanshi’s age.
“As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment. The Board will cover all their expenses,” Saikia told Sportstar.
Reward For A Dream IPL 2026 Season
Sooryavanshi’s selection comes on the back of a sensational IPL campaign with the Rajasthan Royals. The teenage opener dominated bowling attacks throughout the tournament, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 776 runs.
His stellar season included one century and five half-centuries, helping him secure both the Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player awards.
The youngster’s fearless approach and consistency under pressure made him one of the standout performers of the season and accelerated calls for his inclusion in the national side.
Currently With India A In Sri Lanka
Before joining the senior national squad, Sooryavanshi is currently representing the India A side in Sri Lanka, where he is part of the squad participating in an upcoming tri-nation series.
The experience is expected to serve as an important stepping stone as he prepares for the challenges of international cricket.
Ajit Agarkar: ‘He Picked Himself’
India chief selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that Sooryavanshi’s performances left the selectors with little choice but to include him in the squad.
Speaking after announcing the team, Agarkar praised the youngster’s ability to perform under pressure and highlighted his impact during the IPL.
“What do you say, we’ve seen what he can do. You saw, even towards those playoffs, almost single-handedly carried the Rajasthan Royals. For a young kid, I don’t need to talk about how well he’s batting or how well he’s playing.”
Agarkar noted that Sooryavanshi’s success is not limited to one season and pointed out how impressive it is for a teenager to thrive in one of the world’s most competitive T20 tournaments.
“It’s not just this season. He’s obviously made a great start last season. To back it up for a young kid in a competition that’s as competitive and has a high-pressure environment, and how explosive he can be, and a game-changer that he can be.”
The chief selector added that the entire cricketing fraternity has been impressed by the youngster’s rise.
“We’ve, like everyone else that’s watched cricket, or at least watched T20 cricket in India, got high hopes of him, and I think he just has picked himself really.”
A New Chapter Begins
The decision to allow Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him reflects the BCCI’s recognition of the unique challenges faced by exceptionally young athletes entering the international arena.
As India prepares for assignments in Ireland, England and the upcoming Asian Games, all eyes will be on the teenager who has rapidly progressed from IPL sensation to national team prospect.
With family support by his side and expectations soaring, Sooryavanshi now embarks on what could be the first chapter of a long international career.
