Apple is reportedly considering a major design change that could see MagSafe support phased out from future iPhones, as the company explores more advanced hardware features and a redesigned internal structure.
MagSafe, introduced to create a magnetic ecosystem for charging and accessories like wallets, stands, and battery packs, has become a significant part of Apple’s accessory market. However, industry reports suggest that Apple may rethink its inclusion due to space and design constraints.
According to a tipster on Weibo, Apple’s shift toward a “full glass” iPhone design in upcoming models could make it difficult to continue using the internal magnet system required for MagSafe. Removing it may free up internal space, potentially allowing for larger batteries, improved camera systems, and other hardware upgrades.
The report also indicates that Apple is actively exploring ways to optimise internal components, and MagSafe could eventually be replaced or limited to select premium models. This aligns with broader rumours of a product revamp under Apple’s leadership, including new high-end devices like an “Ultra” iPhone and MacBook lineup.
Despite its popularity, MagSafe represents both an opportunity and a limitation for Apple—driving accessory sales while also occupying valuable internal space in increasingly compact devices.
As of now, Apple has not officially confirmed any changes to MagSafe support in upcoming iPhones.
