Samsung has officially commenced the global rollout of its latest software iteration, One UI 8.5, bringing a suite of advanced features and performance optimizations to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Following its initial debut in South Korea, the update is now reaching international markets, including India and Europe. This version focuses heavily on expanding the Galaxy AI ecosystem, introducing more intuitive communication tools and a refreshed user interface designed to streamline multitasking.
The core of the One UI 8.5 update lies in its enhanced AI capabilities. Samsung has integrated deeper “Generative Edit” tools for photos and videos, along with “Live Translate” support for a wider range of third-party messaging apps. Beyond AI, users will notice subtle but impactful interface changes, such as smoother animations, redesigned quick-panel toggles, and improved widget customization. The update also addresses critical security vulnerabilities, bundling the May 2026 security patch to ensure device integrity.
Is Your Galaxy Device Eligible This Month?
Samsung is prioritizing its flagship and recent foldable lineups for the first phase of the rollout. Users can expect the update to hit the following devices throughout May:
- Galaxy S-Series: Galaxy S26 Ultra, S26+, S26, and the S25 series.
- Foldables: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and last year’s Z Fold 6/Flip 6.
- Tablets: Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra and Tab S10 series.
- A-Series: Select mid-range devices like the Galaxy A57 and A37 are expected to receive the update toward the end of the month.
To check for the update, users should navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Given the size of the update, which averages around 2.5GB to 3GB, it is recommended to download over a stable Wi-Fi connection with at least 50% battery remaining.
