Russian dissident artist Semyon Skrepetsky, known for his satirical caricatures of political leaders

June 16, 2026: Russian-born artist Semyon Skrepetsky, whose real name was Robert Kuzovkov, was shot dead in Poland on Monday in what authorities are treating as a homicide. According to prosecutors in Lublin, the attacker fired three shots at the victim before approaching him and firing two additional rounds at close range after he collapsed. Two Belarusian nationals have been detained in connection with the incident, although no formal charges have been filed so far.

Skrepetsky gained recognition for his provocative political artwork and caricatures targeting figures such as Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Ramzan Kadyrov, and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. His satire also extended to members of the Russian opposition, including Alexei Navalny. Born in Russia’s Altai Republic, he had been living in exile in Poland since 2021.

Just days before his death, Skrepetsky travelled to Berlin to mark Russia Day with a protest outside the Russian Embassy. During the demonstration, he displayed an icon-style caricature depicting both Stalin and Putin. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing, while the artist’s death has drawn attention due to his outspoken political activism and criticism of powerful leaders.
