India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, is set to embark on an extensive six-nation official visit from July 5 to 15. The highly anticipated diplomatic tour will take him across Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, New York, and Brussels.
Gulf Leg Driven by West Asia Security Concerns
The first leg of the tour, running from July 5 to 10, will focus entirely on the four Gulf nations. During this phase, Jaishankar is scheduled to meet his diplomatic counterparts and regional leadership to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss fast-evolving regional developments.
The visit comes against a volatile geopolitical backdrop following the recent Iran-Israel conflict and U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Current Situation: While a fragile ceasefire has temporarily eased active military hostilities, the regional climate remains highly sensitive. Urgent concerns persist regarding maritime security, global energy supplies, and broader regional stability.
India has consistently advocated for diplomatic dialogue, strategic restraint, and peaceful resolutions to the conflict. A primary objective for New Delhi during these talks remains safeguarding the interests and security of the massive Indian diaspora residing in the Gulf region.
Launch of India’s UNSC Campaign in New York
Upon concluding his engagements in the Gulf, Jaishankar will cross the Atlantic to New York.
On July 13, the External Affairs Minister will officially launch India’s high-profile campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the upcoming 2028–29 term.
Trade and Technology Focus in Brussels
The 11-day diplomatic mission will conclude in Brussels on July 14 and 15.
Jaishankar will represent India at the third India-European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting. Alongside the multilateral forum, he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with key leaders from both Belgium and the European Union. Discussions during this final leg are expected to center on advancing cooperation in:
- Strategic global affairs
- Emerging technologies
- Bilateral trade frameworks
