At least 19 people, including several children, were killed in Pakistani airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan

June 10, 2026: Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated sharply after Pakistani forces reportedly carried out overnight airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 19 people and injuring 14 others. Afghan authorities said the strikes targeted areas in Kunar, Khost and Paktika provinces near the border, with several civilians among the casualties, including children.

The Taliban government strongly condemned the operation, describing it as a violation of Afghan sovereignty. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistani aircraft of entering Afghan airspace and bombing residential areas. According to Taliban officials, those killed included 11 children, one woman and an elderly man. The administration called the strikes “unprovoked aggression” and demanded accountability for the civilian deaths.

The latest incident comes amid continuing disputes between Islamabad and Kabul over border security. Pakistan has repeatedly alleged that militant groups operate from Afghan territory and carry out attacks inside Pakistan, a claim consistently denied by the Taliban administration. Afghan officials warned that such cross-border military actions could further destabilise security along the already tense frontier.
