Thousands gathered in Rawalakot as demonstrations against governance, economic hardships
June 25, 2026: Large-scale protests continued in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on Wednesday, marking the 17th day of demonstrations in several areas, including Rawalakot. According to reports, thousands of people participated in a gathering organised by the Awami Action Committee, raising concerns over economic conditions, inflation, governance issues, and administrative policies. The prolonged agitation has disrupted normal life in parts of the region and drawn significant public attention.
Several local activists, community leaders, and social media personalities have voiced criticism of Islamabad’s policies in the region. During the gathering, Awami Action Committee leaders called for greater political representation and accountability. Videos circulating on social media showed protesters expressing frustration over economic challenges and governance issues. Some participants also questioned the existing political structure and demanded reforms. Meanwhile, reports suggested that authorities have increased security measures in response to the ongoing protests.
The unrest has also been accompanied by allegations of restrictions on supplies, administrative action against government employees participating in demonstrations, and clashes between protesters and security forces. Officials have not confirmed many of the claims circulating on social media, while Pakistan’s government maintains that steps are being taken to preserve law and order. The situation remains tense, with observers closely monitoring developments as protests continue across different parts of PoJK.
