Thousands continue to flee southern Lebanon as Israeli strikes, Hezbollah attacks

June 9, 2026: Lebanon’s southern city of Tyre witnessed fresh evacuations after the Israeli military issued new displacement orders covering additional parts of the city, including areas that had previously been exempt. Civil defence teams assisted elderly and vulnerable residents in moving to safer locations as civilians continued to leave the affected neighbourhoods. Israel said the evacuation order was linked to alleged Hezbollah activity in the area. Meanwhile, an Israeli strike in Sharqiyeh reportedly injured three people, including two rescue workers who were responding to an earlier attack.

The conflict continued to intensify as an Israeli airstrike on a residential neighbourhood in Tyre reportedly killed at least eight people. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, including operations near the strategic Beaufort Castle area. The group also said it targeted Israeli troop positions and intercepted a drone. At the same time, military leaders from Pakistan and Lebanon met in Rawalpindi to discuss regional security and defence cooperation amid the growing instability.

Lebanon’s humanitarian situation has worsened significantly. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said thousands of airstrikes and military operations have devastated large parts of the country since March. According to Lebanese authorities, more than 3,600 people have been killed and over 11,000 injured, while more than one million residents have been displaced. Aid organisations warn that shelters are overcrowded and basic necessities remain scarce, with many families returning to find their homes and communities destroyed by the ongoing conflict.
