Ukraine’s Parliament has approved President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s nominee Sergii Koretskyi as the country’s new prime minister, replacing Yulia Svyrydenko.

July 16, 2026: Ukraine’s Parliament on Thursday approved Sergii Koretskyi, the chairman of state energy company Naftogaz, as the country’s new prime minister. Koretskyi takes over from Yulia Svyrydenko, who resigned earlier this week as part of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s planned government reshuffle.

President Zelenskyy said Koretskyi was the most suitable choice to lead the government at a time when Ukraine is preparing for another challenging winter. He highlighted the new prime minister’s extensive experience in the energy sector as a key factor behind the appointment.

The leadership change comes as Ukraine seeks to strengthen governance and address critical energy and infrastructure challenges amid the ongoing conflict. The government is expected to focus on ensuring energy security and maintaining essential services during the winter months.
