Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced nationwide protests from August 5 as former Prime Minister Imran Khan
July 16, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday announced a nationwide protest beginning August 5 to mark three years of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s imprisonment. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja said rallies would be held across Pakistan and the campaign would continue until Khan is released. He also urged the government not to crack down on party workers during the protests.
Imran Khan, currently lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, was first arrested on August 5, 2023, after being convicted in the Toshakhana case. Since then, he has faced multiple arrests and convictions in other cases, leading to his continued incarceration. PTI leaders alleged that Khan has been kept in solitary confinement, denied regular access to his family and lawyers, and has not received adequate medical care.
Raja accused the authorities of denying Khan justice and called for an end to what he described as political oppression. The party has repeatedly demanded the restoration of Khan’s right to meet his family, legal team, and political associates. PTI had earlier sought his transfer to a hospital for medical treatment and continues to campaign for improved conditions and his eventual release.
