Probe Ordered as Toll Rises in Jabalpur Incident
May 1, 2026: Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the boat capsizing incident at Bargi Dam. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, assuring that local authorities are assisting those affected. The Prime Minister also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased, and ₹50,000 for those injured.
The death toll in the tragedy has risen to nine, with search operations still underway to locate missing passengers. The accident occurred when a tourism department cruise boat capsized amid adverse weather conditions. Dharmendra Singh Lodhi termed the incident “deeply tragic” and ordered an inquiry, warning that strict action would be taken if negligence is found.
Rescue teams, including the NDRF, Army, and local authorities, have been working in difficult conditions to carry out operations. Neeraj Singh Rajput said heavy rain and darkness hampered efforts, but additional reinforcements helped recover more bodies. Officials confirmed that 24 rescued individuals are undergoing treatment, with all injured receiving necessary medical care.
