Actor, choreographer, and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has finally addressed growing speculation about his possible entry into electoral politics.

Rumors have been circulating across Tamil Nadu suggesting that Lawrence could contest the upcoming by-election from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly Constituency. While he did not confirm the reports, he announced that he would make a major statement about his future on June 11.

By-Election Triggered After Vijay Vacated the Seat

The by-election in Tiruchirappalli East became necessary after C Joseph Vijay vacated the constituency.

During the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held in April 2026, Vijay successfully contested from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. As a result, he was required to give up one of the seats, leading to the need for a fresh election in Tiruchirappalli East.

Since then, discussions about potential candidates have intensified, with Lawrence’s name frequently appearing in political conversations.

Lawrence Breaks Silence on Growing Speculation

In a statement posted on his social media platform X, Lawrence acknowledged the widespread reports linking him to the by-election.

He said journalists and media organizations had repeatedly approached him seeking clarification regarding the rumours.

According to the actor, the volume of speculation had become so significant that he felt it was necessary to address the issue publicly.

However, instead of directly confirming or denying his political ambitions, Lawrence chose to keep his plans under wraps until June 11.

Busy With Shooting of ‘Benz’

Lawrence explained that he is currently focused on completing work on his upcoming film, Benz.

The actor stated that filming commitments will keep him occupied until June 10. Therefore, he plans to make his announcement only after wrapping up the current shooting schedule.

“Benz” features Lawrence in the lead role and has already generated significant interest among fans.

‘Benz’ Expands the Lokesh Cinematic Universe

Directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, known for the hit film Remo, “Benz” is the latest project connected to the popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe.

The cinematic universe was created by Lokesh Kanagaraj and includes blockbuster films such as Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.

Lokesh is also backing “Benz” as a producer, adding to the excitement surrounding the project.

Reports suggest that actors Nivin Pauly, Ravi Mohan, and Samyuktha will play important roles in the film. The music is being composed by Sai Abhyankkar.

Hashtags Spark Political Speculation

Although Lawrence avoided making any direct political declaration, his statement included hashtags that immediately caught public attention.

He used the hashtags “maattram,” which means “change,” and “service is god.” Consequently, many observers interpreted them as hints toward a larger social or political mission.

The actor also mentioned that his upcoming announcement would be made with his mother’s blessings, adding an emotional touch to the message.

Fans and Political Observers Await June 11

Lawrence’s carefully worded statement has only increased curiosity about his next move.
