During the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held in April 2026, Vijay successfully contested from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. As a result, he was required to give up one of the seats, leading to the need for a fresh election in Tiruchirappalli East.
Since then, discussions about potential candidates have intensified, with Lawrence’s name frequently appearing in political conversations.

In a statement posted on his social media platform X, Lawrence acknowledged the widespread reports linking him to the by-election.
He said journalists and media organizations had repeatedly approached him seeking clarification regarding the rumours.
According to the actor, the volume of speculation had become so significant that he felt it was necessary to address the issue publicly.
However, instead of directly confirming or denying his political ambitions, Lawrence chose to keep his plans under wraps until June 11.

Lawrence explained that he is currently focused on completing work on his upcoming film, Benz.
The actor stated that filming commitments will keep him occupied until June 10. Therefore, he plans to make his announcement only after wrapping up the current shooting schedule.

Directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, known for the hit film Remo, “Benz” is the latest project connected to the popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
The cinematic universe was created by Lokesh Kanagaraj and includes blockbuster films such as Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.
Lokesh is also backing “Benz” as a producer, adding to the excitement surrounding the project.
