The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecast hot and dry weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, with isolated heat wave conditions expected in the plains of the Jammu division.

According to the latest weather advisory issued on May 18, residents in several parts of Jammu are likely to experience rising temperatures and dry conditions during the day.

Heat Wave Alert For Jammu Plains

The weather department stated that isolated areas in the plains of the Jammu division could face heat wave conditions due to persistent hot and dry weather. Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

The advisory mainly applies to low-lying regions where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal levels.

Weather To Change From May 19 To 21

The Meteorological Centre said weather conditions are expected to shift between May 19 and May 21. During this period, skies across the Union Territory are likely to remain partly to generally cloudy.

Several areas may witness light rain, thundershowers, gusty winds, and possible hailstorms, especially during afternoon and evening hours. The impact is expected to be more noticeable in scattered to many locations across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds Expected

The weather department warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph may occur at a few places between May 19 and 21.

Due to the possibility of sudden gusty winds and unstable weather conditions, authorities advised people to remain cautious while travelling or engaging in outdoor activities.

Advisory For Boating And Shikara Services

As a precautionary measure, the MET Centre advised suspension of boating and shikara riding activities, particularly during afternoon and late afternoon hours when weather disturbances are expected to intensify.

Tourists and locals visiting lakes and water bodies in Kashmir have been urged to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary risks during changing weather conditions.

Dry Weather Likely Again After May 25

According to the forecast, weather conditions are expected to improve after May 25. Dry weather is likely to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir from May 26 to May 28, bringing more stable atmospheric conditions to the region.
