India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Bengaluru and several parts of interior Karnataka, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rainfall ahead of the Southwest Monsoon.

The weather department has also forecast possible hailstorms in isolated regions of the state. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and strong winds is expected to remain in effect until Thursday across multiple districts.

Bengaluru likely to see major weather shift

Despite recording a significant 57 per cent pre-monsoon rainfall deficit so far this season, Bengaluru is expected to witness a sharp weather turnaround this week.

During the night between Sunday and Monday, several parts of the city experienced light drizzle. According to the Bengaluru weather dashboard, rainfall activity was reported in 157 civic wards, with the highest recorded rainfall measuring 0.7 mm.

Monsoon conditions gradually building

The latest weather activity comes as Karnataka prepares for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon. Meteorologists expect unstable atmospheric conditions to trigger widespread rainfall across interior regions over the next few days.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly due to the risk of lightning and sudden gusty winds.
