West Bengal Police have arrested Sarina Bibi, the wife of Trinamool Congress strongman Jahangir Khan, in connection with the violent attack on police personnel and central forces outside Falta Police Station.

The arrest comes two days after clashes erupted during a protest demanding the release of Jahangir Khan, who has been in custody since June 8.

Wife Accused Of Leading Protest

According to police officials, Sarina Bibi allegedly played a key role in organising and leading the protest that turned violent outside the police station. Authorities claim demonstrators attempted to pressure police into releasing Jahangir Khan and attacked security personnel during the unrest.

The 37-year-old was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

So far, 27 people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the violence.

Why Was Jahangir Khan Arrested?

Jahangir Khan was arrested near the Nepal border while allegedly attempting to flee the country. He has remained in custody since June 8.

Police sources claim tensions escalated after Khan was publicly paraded with a rope tied around his waist following his arrest, a move that reportedly angered his supporters and family members.

Investigators allege that Sarina Bibi mobilised supporters in response to the public display of her husband.

Allegations Of Anti-State Activities

Authorities have also registered a separate case against Sarina Bibi based on allegations linked to anti-state activities and her alleged involvement in organising the protests.

State officials have indicated that strict action will be taken against individuals found responsible for attacks on law enforcement personnel and public property.

Who Is Jahangir Khan?

Jahangir Khan emerged as a controversial political figure in West Bengal’s Falta region and is widely known for projecting himself as “Pushpa,” inspired by the popular Telugu action film.

He gained statewide attention during previous Assembly elections following a public confrontation with IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma.

Khan later contested elections as a Trinamool Congress candidate from Falta but withdrew before a repoll was conducted. The BJP subsequently won the constituency by a significant margin.

Over the years, enforcement agencies have reportedly monitored him over allegations involving election-related misconduct, intimidation and other irregularities.

Investigation Continues

Police are continuing to investigate the attack on the Falta Police Station and are examining the role of all individuals involved in the violence.

Officials say further arrests may follow as evidence is reviewed and additional suspects are identified.

The case has once again brought political violence and law-and-order issues in West Bengal into the spotlight, with both legal and political implications likely to unfold in the coming weeks.
