The Germany national football team delivered an impressive performance in their final home warm-up match before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating the Finland national football team 4-0 in Mainz.

Forward Deniz Undav was the standout performer of the night. He scored twice and set up another goal as Germany completely outplayed a Finnish side that struggled to cope with the hosts’ attacking quality.
However, the evening was not entirely perfect for Germany. Undav was forced off with an injury shortly after scoring his second goal, creating a minor concern ahead of the World Cup.
Undav Takes His Chance in Rare Starting Role
With Kai Havertz yet to join the national team camp, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann handed Undav a rare start.
The striker made the most of his opportunity.
From the opening minutes, Undav looked sharp and dangerous. He linked up effectively with 18-year-old debutant Lennart Karl, who impressed in his first senior international appearance.
Germany controlled possession and created several chances before finally breaking the deadlock in the 34th minute.
Captain Joshua Kimmich delivered a superb cross from the right flank, and Undav rose above the defence to head the ball into the net.
Germany Step Up After the Break
The hosts returned from halftime with even greater intensity.
Just minutes into the second half, Finland defender Ville Koski made a costly mistake while attempting to play out from the back. Undav quickly intercepted the loose pass and squared the ball to Florian Wirtz, who finished easily to double Germany’s advantage.
Germany continued to dominate, and Undav added his second goal shortly before the hour mark.
After receiving an excellent pass from Karl, the striker calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky to make it 3-0.
Unfortunately, Undav appeared to pick up an injury during the move and was substituted immediately afterward.
Musiala Marks Return with a Goal
One of the biggest positives for Germany was the return of Jamal Musiala.
The Bayern Munich star was making his first international appearance since March 2025 after spending several months recovering from a broken leg.
Musiala wasted little time making an impact.
In the 63rd minute, he received the ball just outside the penalty area before firing a powerful shot into the net to complete the 4-0 victory.
His goal provided another encouraging sign for Germany as they prepare for the World Cup.
Lennart Karl Impresses on Debut
Teenage midfielder Lennart Karl enjoyed a memorable evening in Mainz.
The 18-year-old looked confident throughout the match and played a key role in Germany’s attacking moves. He also registered an assist for Undav’s second goal.
His performance could strengthen his chances of earning further opportunities during the tournament.
Manuel Neuer Misses Match Through Injury
Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was unavailable due to a calf injury.
Neuer, who recently made a surprise return to the national team setup after previously retiring from international football, watched from the sidelines as Oliver Baumann started in goal.
Fortunately for Germany, Baumann was rarely troubled during the match.
Germany Build Momentum Before World Cup
The convincing win gives Germany valuable momentum ahead of the World Cup.
Nagelsmann’s side now has one final friendly remaining before the tournament begins. Germany will face co-hosts United States men’s national soccer team in Chicago before opening their World Cup campaign against Curaçao national football team on June 14.
With key players returning to fitness and younger talents making strong impressions, Germany appears to be building confidence at the right time.
