The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the venues for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoffs within the next two days, according to board secretary Devajit Saikia.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Saikia said the board is currently evaluating suitable locations to host the four crucial playoff matches — Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the final.
“We are going to announce the venues in two days’ time. We are working on which all can be our appropriate venues for the IPL playoffs and the finals. So, we’ll take another two days,” he said.
Impact Player Rule Under Review
Apart from venue discussions, the Impact Player rule — introduced in IPL 2023 — continues to generate debate among fans and experts. The BCCI has already confirmed that the rule will remain in place until 2027, after which it will undergo a formal review.
Saikia defended the rule, pointing out that it has contributed to a wide variety of match outcomes this season.
“Some low-scoring matches are also happening. Bowlers are getting wickets, and at the same time, some teams are chasing totals above 260. Everything is happening — it’s a full bouquet in one package,” he said.
No Formal Objections from Teams
The BCCI official also clarified that franchises have not raised any official concerns about the Impact Player rule so far.
“There is no official request from teams to revisit this rule. Discussions have been ongoing for the last two years, and we will review it after the tournament. But during the tournament, we cannot take any decision,” Saikia explained.
He added that while the debate continues in the media, any potential change will depend on formal feedback from the teams.
What to Expect Next
With the league stage nearing its conclusion, the announcement of playoff venues is eagerly awaited by fans and franchises alike. The decision will play a key role in shaping team strategies heading into the knockout phase of IPL 2026.
