Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi is set to revisit Islamabad as regional efforts to end tensions gain pace, even as the US pulls back.

April 26, 2026: Abbas Araghchi is expected to return to Islamabad as diplomatic efforts intensify to find a resolution to the ongoing crisis. His visit comes amid renewed mediation attempts involving regional players, even as Donald Trump cancelled a planned trip by US envoys to Pakistan. Araghchi had earlier met Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army chief Asim Munir, before travelling to Oman for further consultations.

Officials view Araghchi’s possible return as a positive signal in ongoing peace efforts. During his visit to Oman, he held discussions with the Sultan on regional security, particularly focusing on safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran emphasised the need for regional cooperation in security matters, advocating solutions independent of external intervention.

After his earlier meetings, Araghchi described the discussions as “fruitful” and reiterated Iran’s stance on establishing a framework to end the conflict, while questioning Washington’s seriousness about diplomacy. Meanwhile, Trump said there was no urgency for talks, cancelling the visit of envoys including Steve Witkoff. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also stressed that Tehran would not engage in negotiations under pressure, insisting that the US must first ease restrictions before any meaningful agreement can be reached.
