Authorities issued evacuation orders and opened a temporary shelter after a toxic chemical leak at an aerospace manufacturing facility in Garden Grove

May 22, 2026: Evacuation orders were reissued in parts of Orange County, California, after a chemical leak was reported at a facility in Garden Grove. Authorities also set up a temporary shelter at Stanton City Hall on 7800 Katella Avenue to accommodate displaced residents.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the evacuation zone includes areas north of Garden Grove Boulevard, east of Springdale Avenue, west of Dale Street and south of Orangewood Avenue. These neighborhoods are located near Stanton, where emergency arrangements have been made for affected residents.

Officials said the leak originated from an industrial tank containing a flammable, toxic and self-heating substance at an aerospace-related manufacturing facility. Emergency crews were dispatched to the 12000 block of Western Avenue in Garden Grove around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of a hazardous materials incident. The business at the site is known to manufacture plastic components used in the aerospace industry.
