US President Donald Trump said Washington did not enter negotiations out of necessity, claiming Iran initiated the talks

June 19, 2026: US President Donald Trump on Friday said that the United States did not engage in talks with Iran out of desperation, insisting that it was Tehran that sought negotiations. In a strong statement posted on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran was in a weakened position and rejected suggestions that Washington needed the discussions.

Trump reiterated that the US would continue to follow the 60-day timeline associated with the ongoing diplomatic process. He stressed that the United States would not alter its position or provide any concessions during the period, maintaining a firm stance toward Tehran.

Ruling out any form of financial assistance, Trump declared that Iran would not receive any money from the United States. “We didn’t meet out of desperation, Iran did. They are FINISHED! We’ll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents!” he wrote, underscoring his administration’s hardline approach toward the country.
