Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that any renewed US attack would trigger a wider regional conflict
May 20, 2026: Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that any renewed American attack would expand the conflict beyond the Gulf region. The warning came after US President Donald Trump suggested that Washington could launch another “big hit” against Tehran if necessary. Trump said the United States hoped to avoid war but added that military action remained possible, hinting that strikes could happen within days or sometime next week.
In a strongly worded statement published on Sepah News, the IRGC warned that if Iran faced another attack, the conflict would spread far beyond the region. The Guards claimed that despite recent military operations by the US and Israel, Iran had not yet deployed its full military capability. The crisis in West Asia escalated after joint US-Israeli attacks on Tehran reportedly led to the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with several senior Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, Aziz Nasirzadeh and Esmaeil Khatib.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said Washington remained “locked and loaded” even as diplomatic efforts with Iran continued. Speaking at the White House, Vance stated that the US would not accept any agreement allowing Iran to possess nuclear weapons. He added that while negotiations were progressing in good faith, the final outcome depended on Tehran’s willingness to meet American conditions. The latest statements from both sides have further heightened fears of a broader regional conflict.
