The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains optimistic that India will travel to Bangladesh in September 2026 for a six-match white-ball series, despite the strained relations between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier this year. According to BCB officials, recent developments have been encouraging, raising hopes that the bilateral series will proceed as scheduled.
Relations between the two cricket boards had come under strain after Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from his IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in January amid heightened diplomatic tensions. The BCB had also raised security concerns regarding the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, requesting that Bangladesh’s matches be shifted out of India. However, officials now believe the situation has improved significantly.
Speaking about the upcoming tour, BCB Media Committee Chairman Asif Rabbani expressed confidence that India would honour the scheduled fixtures. He revealed that the board has already floated the Expression of Interest (EOI) for media rights covering its upcoming home series, including India’s visit. Rabbani said the response from broadcasters is expected to be positive, highlighting the commercial and sporting value of hosting one of the world’s biggest cricket teams.
As per the previously announced itinerary, the Indian team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28, 2026. The three-match ODI series is scheduled for September 1, 3, and 6, followed by a three-match T20I series on September 9, 12, and 13.
The white-ball tour was originally planned for August-September 2025 but was postponed by mutual agreement between the BCCI and the BCB due to scheduling commitments and international cricketing obligations. Both boards had then announced that the series would instead be held in September 2026, and the latest comments from Bangladesh officials suggest preparations are moving in the right direction.
