July 23, 2026: Shops, offices and restaurants in Delhi’s Connaught Place have been advised to close by 6:30 PM on Thursday after the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) issued an advisory citing heightened security concerns. The association said the decision was taken on the advice of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) due to the prevailing situation around Connaught Place ahead of the protest at Jantar Mantar.

In its circular, the NDTA urged traders and business owners to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow the advisory to prevent any untoward incident or damage to property. The association said the early closure was purely a precautionary measure in view of the security arrangements in the area.

Reacting to the development, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the government was preparing for action against protesters. In a post on X, he claimed there was heavy security deployment and a large number of ambulances near the protest site, questioning whether the government intended to use force again. However, the NDTA advisory only cited the prevailing security situation around Connaught Place as the reason for the early shutdown.
