May 31, 2026: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that Iran will not accept any agreement with the United States unless there are firm guarantees that the rights of the Iranian people are safeguarded. Speaking after being re-elected as parliament speaker, Ghalibaf said Iran does not trust promises made by its adversaries and will judge any deal based on tangible outcomes rather than verbal commitments.

His remarks come amid uncertainty surrounding efforts to reach a new understanding between Iran and the United States. Reports suggest that US President Donald Trump has sent Tehran a revised framework containing stricter terms for consideration. While details remain unclear, discussions have reportedly focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional issues.

Iran has reportedly demanded access to billions of dollars in frozen assets before engaging in substantive negotiations and has also sought assurances on regional matters involving Lebanon. Although expectations of a possible agreement had grown in recent weeks, Trump indicated that Washington is not under pressure to conclude a deal quickly, warning that alternative measures remain on the table if negotiations fail.
