June 22, 2026: The United States and Iran have agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days following two days of negotiations in Burgenstock, Switzerland. The talks were held under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last week and were facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar. The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran was represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also participated in the discussions.

In a joint statement issued after the Lake Lucerne Summit, mediators said the parties reviewed progress made under the MoU and agreed to establish a high-level committee to oversee its implementation. The statement confirmed that a dedicated communication channel has been created to prevent misunderstandings and ensure the safe movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Technical negotiations are expected to begin immediately as part of the agreed 60-day roadmap.

The talks also addressed regional security issues, including the situation in Lebanon. Mediators said discussions on the implementation of ceasefire-related commitments would continue throughout the week. Pakistan and Qatar described the summit as positive and constructive, reiterating their commitment to supporting dialogue between Washington and Tehran. The Burgenstock meeting marked the first formal review of progress under the Islamabad MoU, which was signed following intensive diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the region.
